Just to note: Nomad has added service discovery (https://www.hashicorp.com/blog/nomad-1-3-adds-native-service...) and a secrets system (https://www.hashicorp.com/blog/nomad-1-4-adds-nomad-variable...) in the past few months. You can run Nomad without Consul or Vault for many use-cases now.
