France also has rules regarding who can call themselves an engineer, although software engineering is recognized. A "diplôme d'ingénieur" can only be delivered by accredited institutions regulated by the "Commission des titres d'ingénieur" (committee of engineering titles). Whether or not an engineering school is accredited can be an important factor in deciding whether to join it after high school. Some software engineering schools that focus more on coding and tech skills without necessarily spending much time on other topics that provide a solid engineering foundation are not accredited.
