Being in New Zealand I remember the google balloon project, what happened to that?

Project Loon was killed last year.

Loon was shut down, but some of the technology is being elsewhere. (not surprising, this is how a lot of r&d projects go)

Some of the laser communication link tech is being used in project taara.

My understanding is that it could be made to work, but Starlink came along and clearly solved the problem of delivering high speed internet to remote areas better.
