Noob here. What is 2x4 means ?

A 2” by 4” piece of lumber, a common dimension in the states. It’s being used metaphorically here, of course.

Sometimes called a "clue by four". Not actually 2" x 4", IIRC it's more like 1.5" x 3.5".
