My understanding of "don't cite Wikipedia" is the same for "don't cite the Encyclopedia". By failing to use a primary source, you're subjecting yourself to the interpretation and biases of someone who has already ingested the source material and formed an opinion. It's a great place to orient yourself on a piece of subject matter, though! And I certainly agree that the dreck that makes up 95% of Google results should certainly not be cited academically. |
