I find it interesting that some sibling comments decry web3 and cryptocurrencies as scams. 'Crypto' doesn't scam people, scammers do. Crypto (currencies, web3, dao, defi, etc) makes it very very easy to move money or value in a way which cannot be controlled. This is a great property for those who value this ideal, and for others is frightening and disheartening. It really depends on where you place responsibility for managing your own opportunities: individual or society. Similarly, the scam aspect comes in for the difficulty of understanding the implications of your actions. Is this smart contract really doing what I expect it to? Well, how much do you invest in finding the answer to this question? I'd rather it be a question of capability, than trust. I can never know all that a bank or government does to ensure my dollars or euros are safe. Is that ideal? I don't know, but I appreciate that there is an alternative. |
