What in a LED can act like a high explosive?

The answer is, nothing. Unless you put high explosive in it...

TVs don't explode, they just kind of burn. Even the CRTs just kind of popped and maybe threw a few pieces of glass. They certainly didn't crack the walls.

Edit: Another possible explanation is a gas leak and a sparking capacitor or something.

One possible answer: the explosive device it was sabotaged with.
That's the thing I am trying to digest, how's it possible?
Capacitors or overvoltaging certain components.
I’ve blown plenty of capacitors in my life and never had one crack a wall, much less kill anyone! And i’m talking BIG caps.
