What skills, knowledge, learnings, experience is necessary to get a role as a programmer or software engineer in the space sector from outside it?

Could anyone recommend texts / projects / route in?

As the number of independent launch companies and associated launches increases the employment opportunities for Software Engineers in the Space Sector also increases.
