Interesting nit: The moon's _sidereal_ period is 27 days. But the _synodic_ period is 29.5 days, and that means there are 12.4 lunar months in a year. (If the moon were somehow stationary relative to the earth, it would still go through a full cycle of phases, giving us one lunar month for free.) |
