I know Microsoft isn’t popular but Office365s family plan is fantastic value for the money. All interactions with Microsoft support have been… scripted but successful.

Isn't that the same problem, with potentially getting locked out of an account and not being able to do anything?

Sure, but you’re going to run into that with all hosted email. Microsoft has, in my opinion, a much better customer service track record.

The only downside of O365 is that custom email domain requires you to have domains from godaddy.

I’m using a custom domain using a small Swedish registrar so I think your info is out of date :)
