MatterPort - Software Engineer (Vision & Algorithms focus) - 3D Scanning Company
1 points by llebttam 5323 days ago
What we're doing:

We are creating a low cost point-and-shoot 3D scanner. Our software, combined with the inexpensive 3D capture hardware now available on the market, will allow everyone to create 3D models of physical objects and environments quickly and easily. See a demo video at http://matterport.com

What you would be doing:

You’ll be working on our 3D alignment and mesh reconstruction algorithms, improving robustness and quality. You’ll need to get creative and invent new algorithms, not just apply known techniques. There are big, interesting problems to solve that are central to our product.

Unlike much of computer science, computer vision is about messy data and uncertain results, so you’ll need to work well with that. Past experience in computer vision or a related field (eg image processing or machine learning) is preferable. Experience with high-performance code (optimization, parallelization, CUDA) is a plus. Our codebase is primarily in C++.

At this time, we are still a very small team. You will have a very significant influence on the future of the company and a chance to shape a fundamentally new category of product.

There are plenty of predictable jobs at large companies. This is something different... an adventure with a very highly talented, motivated, and passionate group. While we are paying salaries at somewhat less than market rate in the short term, we are offering significant amounts of equity; we want the earliest employees to all do very well if the company does very well. You will need to be the sort of person who functions well in a less structured environment, who can create order out of chaos, and who can take on a broad range of responsibilities as the need arises.
