What's ridiculous is that the residents of London "put up" with this constant noise of planes overhead all day.

Heathrow is in the perfectly wrong place possible. Due to the prevailing wind, practically all planes landing at Heathrow cross right over the entire city before landing!

It's noticeable how loud the first planes landing at 6am are (there is a curfew fortunately). That means they fly over the city ~5:40am.

What's even more frustrating is that 30% of arrivals/departures are passengers transiting through Heathrow and not even benefiting the local economy who have to put up with the noise!

And they want to build another runway to make even more noise pollution! NO!

Heathrow is one of the biggest, if not the one European hubs. The UK, despite what people say is still and will always be a very important region for trade and travel. These things come with progress and prosperity. NYC is the same. If you go to Sicily I'm sure you'll be able to sleep =)
Helicopter noise pollution in central London is insane, especially during weekends when there often are protests, demonstrations and special events.
