Something about that story reminds me of toy story being deleted and a single animator had taken a copy of the _entire_ project home to work on it from home.

Another good one is Maersk. When they suffered a ransomware attack that deleted all access to all backups/replication servers, the only surviving backup was a replication server that happened to be offline during the attack, because it was situated in a country with very unstable internet and power supply.
