I know today home schooling is often discussed as a political talking point, but I do have some experience with it and I can't say enough good about it. The main problem I have with public school is that you have 30ish kids in a single class room all learning the same way. Everyone is unique and kids learn in many different ways. I had a kid in my family who did home schooling for a few years and it was basically a window of time to complete the material. You could structure your day in a traditional format where you spend so much time on a specific subject then move on or focus on a specific subject until you complete it. The only challenge is ensuring that your kids still have social interaction. The kid in my family played sports and there were a lot of kids in his neighborhood so it worked out pretty good. Not to mention, there are more options to pick from regarding each subject. I forget all of the options for Science, but one was "forensic science" which I thought was pretty cool. |
