Whatever they do, let's hope they don't decide to stick a camera in it (for AR purposes), or it could be another Google Glasses fiasco.

I think that's a Google-specific problem.

If Apple comes out with AR glasses with cameras, no one will bat an eye. (And if they do, Apple will already have a great story for why it isn't an issue.)

I might have been to young to actually have noticed it. But from what I remember, in 2014 Google didn't have the reputation it has now.
They had a reputation for great tech but not great products. Glass was not compelling (or, at best, not marketed well). No one wanted it -- except gadgets nerds. So it was easy to complain about one thing or another.

If Apple does it, everyone will want one. Apple makes great products and has the best marketing of anything ever. Even if it has a camera going 24x7, people will be able to live with it.

Even Facebook's Quest have camera, but it's accepted because it's needed for inside out room tracking
