YES. I use Slack all day long for work, and mostly love it. When I have to use Discord for some group, I feel like I'm missing everything. The UI baffles me. I'm kinda worried that people might be direct-messaging me and I'd never know. (CAN you DM in Discord? You must be able to, right?)

In both IRC and Slack, DMs are per-server, so if you are focused on Server A, you can see DMs from Server A, and to see DMs from Server B, you have to focus on Server B.

In Discord, DMs are outside of servers, or rather they're on your server, which has the appearance of being outside any server. So all DMs are together, unrelated to any of the servers you may know someone from.
