If you have a miscarriage you don't normally dodge medical attention, fail to report it, and then bury the remains quietly in an unmarked grave.

You do if you reasonably fear you're going to be criminalized for seeking medical attention. Here's an example from a few years ago (so reporting is not shaped by current events), and you can find many more recent examples.

Doing meth to the point that it kills your baby is in fact murder.
Not unless you can prove intent, which is probably why the case was dismissed - https://www.ktvu.com/news/murder-case-of-meth-user-who-deliv...

In any case, such nuance is likely beyond the grasp of a 17 year old. I think you are well aware that this doesn't always yield simple seeming edge cases and that you are capable of looking into other examples but chose not to. Here's some more.

A miscarriage can be a very traumatic event. You can't expect someone to act in any way rationally afterwards.

In this case it's a bit more suspicious, but it's not an unlikely explanation by itself.

If you are burying a body in the woods, it seems like Police should check it out.

They did. They found messages of the girl self aborting well into viability and then planning to hide the body.

Have you had a lot of miscarriages?
