My sister interviewed my dad years before he was terminally ill, so I'm very fortunate to have that. I bought StoryWorth for my mom as a Christmas present to basically interview her via email, and she hated it and wouldn't do it (my father in law loved it and we printed books for my wife's siblings). I asked her if we could do StoryCorps in person to help with prompts and recording, and she didn't want to talk about her past like that either. Then I had the idea to ask her if I could interview her about her mother so that her mother's memory wouldn't be lost, and that worked. So it'll take time, but planting the seed for her to understand the value. |
