To replace Notion&Miro, we build a next-gen open-source knowledge base
5 points by entherhe 1410 days ago
Check out at:https://github.com/toeverything/AFFiNE#stay-up-to-date We built an open-source, privacy first Notion/Miro alternative! We call it Affine, and we built it with Typescript/React/Rust. We know that there have been so called notion or airtable "open source alternative"s, but we want to make something even more easier to bring planning, sorting of knowledge and creating of content together. It is not only a block docs, but also a visual learning/collaboration tool merged together. In short, it is a next-gen semantic knowledge base. We prepared a intro at: https://blog.affine.pro/posts/affine-the-next-gen-knowledge-base-to-notion-and-miro

If you like this open source project, please help us by clicking GitHub star, which is crucial for the future development of AFFiNE. As we have just open-sourced it, it would be greatly appreciated if you could provide us with some review or feedback.

Could you maybe expand on your market analysis? Who is the target group here that wants these easy turnkey solutions - often bypassing the IT department all together - and at the same time would want to set up their own VPS/cloud implementation with a state of the art tech state? Just curious.
For now, at this phase I would say we just want to provide general personal knowledge workers before we monetize Affine with business users. We love the idea of semantic web or in Notion that makes the sorting of knowledge & planning of to-dos much more elegant. And we just want to make it more smooth. Besides, we believe a local-first knowledge base is something people(you should always have full control of your data, especially when we talk about knowledges). In longer term, we saw that companies still have to pay a lot just to reinvent the wheels trying to merge their business data and SOPs together. An IT department is not something every SMB can afford and tbh they are not functioning well even in the big companies. And what we are trying to deliver from the business side by open-source is to make high-performance data spreadsheet, modern airtable-ish tables as well as block editors available to every SaaS company by offering Infra-as-a-service. Just like how databricks changed the data industry.
