I think the current idea is that the universal computer is the clown, and your terminals (phone/notebook/laptop) have some local processing and different kinds of views into that computer's space. I actually like that model and remember it well from the late 70s/early 80s. Unfortunately as unix workstations became more popular their somewhat stovepiped model overtook that (despite Sun's "the network is the computer" bull). I hoe we come back to that. |
