Based on my 25years experience with that line of work, this knowledge is not required at all and won't make you write better code. Some coworkers will question your competence, which is a disadvantage. Hiring wise, if you've spent a few years programming without ever learning about "that bits&bytes thing", an employer is tempted to doubt your education, level of curiosity and/or general interest in your field. |
