Many of the European social democracies are also half-cap, half-soc countries, and they have far fewer economic problems. They have a very different monetary system, though, and some of them are successful because the Euro lets them export their economic problems to their poorer neighbours. |

It is also way more capitalist than the US by having a large part of the population paying less than 5% income taxes.
