The author talks about going and getting an award winning pastry but not enjoying it at all. Clearly they must at least have a preference for quality food or else they'd just drink Soylent all day. Like it or not, the fact that we spend so much of our time and societal energy on feeding ourselves collectively instead of hunting and gathering is kind of the whole point of having a civilization. The alternative is every person for themself, and then we really wouldn't have time for any organized higher pursuits. |
