What we're finding out as we study living systems (remember that ecology is a science) is that many of the subsystems involved spans quite large areas, e.g the Monarch Butterfly migrations, or the effects of ocean currents on climate. The point is that unrestricted growth just isn't possible, so somewhere between Yukon and Kowloon there's a "sweet spot". |
