While a WiFi enabled Pico is incredible, I don't understand why they're still using Micro USB over USB-C in 2022. Is there any good reason for choosing one over the other?

Cost perhaps.
Probably under $0.05 difference - but when trying to hit $4 retail every cent matters.
A quick search on the supplier page I happen to have open right now puts the cheapest Micro B connector in stock at around $0.20 and the cheapest C at around $0.40 (both at factory MoQ). So the price difference still appears to be around x2.

A few years ago when I was working on a project, the factor was in low two digits. It was a no-brainer to choose micro B over C.

I have a bunch of smaller, nicer Pico clones with USB-C ports. I expect the W to be cloned by Chinese manufacturers within the month.
