you are not alone. 1973 Ivan Illich wrote 'Tools for Conviviality'[1], 1995 Niklaus Wirth 'A Plea for Lean Software'[2] just to name two. As to the industry, it has to stop before it eats up the planet. All it knows is exponential growth ever since (Moore's law underpinning all decisions) and eating up all resources (energy in the end). It tries to replace reality with virtuality, it's own mock of the former where it plays puppet master. It may not stop by itself but crash. Take care to not overly depend on it.
