You know what has the same, and even sometimes better, precision, requires no batteries, lasts a life time, and is usually a lot cheaper? Classic analog vernier slide calipers. You really don't need anything that fancy the get some exceptionally precise measurements.

Digital calipers do have the advantage of being much harder to misread, as well as the fact that you can do some neat math tricks with em. E.g need the center distance between two same-sized holes? measure the hole diameter of one, zero the calipers, and then measure the outside-outside distance of the holes. The caliper will read the center distance.
They also have an ABS button sometimes for that trick without changing the zero point!
Clearly you own more expensive digital calipers than I do ;)

Once you get to 0.01mm, which even fairly cheap calipers get down to, you're at the limit of how precisely calipers can measure anyways, so why bother going with the really fancy expensive ones?
