It's as dumb as can be. There is no hardware for networking; caveat on this is I haven't cracked it open but my network is monitored and I have not seen a peep from it in 4 years. It can read media files from a USB or external drive which is nice. If you have a lot of devices to connect, you'd be best suited to get a nice hmdi switch, but I only have three so a nice universal remote and some cable management works just fine.
