Nor is this stuff obvious to the average person. I mean they might follow some of these ideas instinctually, but they wouldn't be able to explain why if asked.

A lot of stuff is obvious after someone has said it or done it. A lot of stuff is so obvious that no one would ever say it.

It can still be helpful to say some of these things explicitly because people may not realize they have made an assumption.
