Geopolitics are really interesting, these decisions are always more than they seem at first.

What is the actual reason for this? What is Mexico looking for?

Maybe is just a way to put pressure and push for more near shoring investment?

This is posturing, 100%. The OAS is a useless hindrance to the project of American integration, but AMLO doesn't really care about that, he's just following the populist playbook of making ever more absurd public statements as a façade for policy failures at home.
What do you mean by "political failures"? All polls show him as the most popular Mexican president of the last decades, even facing strong opposition from the 1% and the mainstream media. I am sure he is not perfect and has made mistakes, but much less than the others.
The problem is the continued fascist interventions (driven by US fascist interests) in Latin American countries, with almost 80% control over the latest decades. Now with a short-time non-fascist in the lead of one of their major countries, he took the step forward to come up with a better representation of their interests. Which does include Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Cuba. This goes on since the 60ies.

But the CIA aligned countries do have the majority, so it will not lead to anything. Philip Agee "Inside the Company: CIA Diary"

To boost the president popularity and his party. Major elections happened three days later.
It is not Mexico. It is the current president. He is a narcissist that is always looking for his own interests. He is creating conflict because that is what he is good at. Then he will play the victim. He is not looking for the country's interests.
Could you provide some examples to demonstrate this behaviour over time?
Sure. There is an endless list.

He attempted to jail one of his main opposition rivals. This turned out to be a total fabrication by the Government. It was later admitted. https://apnews.com/article/business-mexico-58710438781b6e3b9...

He tried to distract attention from media asking Spain to apologize when it was discovered that his son was living in a house property of a high executive of a company that has contracts with Pemex. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-mexico-spain/mexican-pres...

He was one of the last presidents to congratulate Biden when he won the presidency. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/mexico-s-president-one-l...

He is threatening not to attend the cumbre of las Americas asking for Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua to attend. Something that is politically imposible for Biden to agree on. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/americas-summit-agen...

He accused legislators that voted against his bill of being traitors. https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/mexican-president-cas...

He visited Trump to help him with the Mexican Vote in the US election https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-mexico-president-trum...

He cancelled the construction of the new Mexico city Airport project which was going to be one of the most important regional hubs. The project was 30% and the cancellation cost 5 billions USD. He alleged corruption but nothing has come out of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexico_City_Texcoco_Airport

This is misleading.

He attempted to jail one of his main opposition rivals. This turned out to be a total fabrication by the Government. It was later admitted.

The Attorney general office is independent from the govt the president did not tried to incarcerate him. The reason he was looked for interrogation, not apprehension, was after another high level official part of the odebretch bribery scheme and currently apprehended accused him of taking part in the same scheme, something that is very real, while the accusations are yet to be verifies, Anaya WAS implicated in pushing for an energy reform that was designed by corrupted officials at the request of a foreign international company. I dont want to waste my time with your other "examples" i am a Mexican and against López Obrador, but you seem like an average reactionary troll with no true conception of Mexican and Latin American history.

> The Attorney general office is independent from the govt the president did not tried to incarcerate him.

Ah the AG. Who is highly corrupt too and used his power to jail his brotherś political family for a personal vendetta. We have the audios too. There is an endless list for him too.

> Anaya WAS implicated in pushing for an energy reform ...

Because he was a legislator and that was his job. Besides the accusation came from a protected witness that would say anything to stay out of jail. And it turned out to be false.

> i am a Mexican and against López Obrador, but you seem like an average reactionary troll with no true conception of Mexican and Latin American history.

For the record, I am a progressive, social democrat. But I am against corrupt liars like Lopez Obrador and his mafia.(Pio, Napito, Barlett, Gertz, etc, etc, etc.)
