I made this switch over the last year and can second the recommendation. If you like Ubuntu, you actually like Debian and just put up with Ubuntu.

I came to the same conclusion as well.

I've been using Debian for 1+ years. This is the best decision I've made regarding an OS ever since I started using Ubuntu many years ago.
