The weirdest thing about AMP is that it requires google JS on your website.

If they got rid of that, I would be totally for it

Google AMP also implied having your site copied and hosted on Google's servers. This was one of the most contentions points, because it wasn't merely a markup standard, but takeover of traffic.
Eh, I don’t really care about that, as long as the cache is invalidated reasonably often.

But it seems the (obfuscated and minified) JS is still required.
