About half the mobile phones sold in India in the last decade or so were either assembled, or even substantially manufactured (i.e., including the semiconductors) in India. It's becoming one of their larger industries. More than a billion units in 2021, most very cheap models you won't encounter in the West. Certainly enough to satisfy the domestic market, and then some.

Include the semiconductors? Hope they soon flood the world with their RISC-V performant mobile chips... ok I wish that, because I know this is one of the only ways to rid the world for some ISA toxic IPs...
I don't think Qualcomm, Samsung and mediatek have foundries in India for manufacturing SOCs. It's mostly done in Taiwan and SK
