I think branding this as menstrual leave is unfortunate. We don't brand leave due to back pain as "back pain leave" or leave due to migraines as "migraine leave". It's just medical leave due to some type of pain. They are just including severe menstrual pain as a type of pain that you can get leave for like back pain, migraine pain, etc. These are all valid reasons take medical leave. From reading the article it sounds like severe menstrual pain will be put in the same category as migraine pain, back pain, other source of pain that regularly occur for different people. My initial reaction before reading the article was, "It's dumb to create a unique category of leave for this type of pain when there are many types of pain people may need to take leave for". But it sounds like currently people can take leave for other types of pain, but conspicuously cannot take leave for this type of pain. |
