People who work for companies are not company property.

No one said that they are?

You agreed to a job where you would work in a specific location, your employer continues to want you to work there. No one is saying or asking anything of you outside of work hours, just that work hours require being in the office. Just because you don’t think it’s necessary isn’t relevant, you are required to do the job, and they’ve decided for whatever reason that they consider being visible in the office a part of the job. That was a part before Covid, and it remains part now.

When this first started and people were told to stay home it was explicitly stated that employees would be required to return to the office eventually, people rewriting the past to pretend that wasn’t the case are just deluding themselves, and frankly that letter felt like it was trying to exploit those groups it claimed were disproportionately harmed to create favour for its positions.
