We’ve had amazing luck working with some inherited Cuisenaire rods (colored, sized rods). My 5yo and I are working through the Gattegno Mathematics book. It jumps straight into formula notation using the color names (2 white rods equals a red, as 2w = r), which has actually helped with writing and letter formation. I’ve been amazed how good the system is at introducing math concepts WITHOUT focusing on counting. |
