A lot of tech blogs are clamoring about a supposed "Tesla Model Pi Smartphone" that Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, tweeted about earlier this week. But we're not so sure it's for real. Here are the facts: Musk tweeted a picture of the phone with specs (a certified shock-proof shell, fingerprint reader, and a 5-inch screen with a 1920 x 1080 resolution) and an email to sign up for updates on the product. That's it. Not only has there been no announcement—besides the tweet—from Tesla, but there have also been no announcements from any of the suppliers they use. They're all denying they have any part in the production of this device. This is pretty standard practice when a product hasn't been officially announced, but most companies will tell their suppliers if they've signed an agreement—otherwise there would be no reason for them to be making parts. So… what do you think? Is it a hoax? Or is something big coming our way? |
