An expert will, left to themself, set the stage by explaining the conditions under which their conclusions apply, and the assumptions made. That is completely antithetical to the sound-bite-oriented media environment. Expertise doesn't work out of context, and as the amount of information one copes with increases so does the necessity of setting it forth. That is part of the problem of successive boiling-down of e.g. Powerpoints. |
