Intelligence is the ability to consistently get what you want out of life. This definition really helped me expand my understanding of intelligence and helped me see intelligence in other people that I had previously dismissed. If people are failing to achieve their goals, then you can credibly conclude they are incompetent. If they are still able to meet the goals they set even though they are not doing things the way you think they should be done, then you should revise your evaluation of their intelligence

I would say consistently achieving your goals is effectiveness. Intelligence can help you be effective, but it's neither necessary nor sufficient.
