That's the norm in school for sure. Many kids take a degree for the perceived value on paper but are never truly into the subject, don't try much, etc... At Amazon are you with other interns or what? Or maybe your sense of perfectionism is getting in the way of you simply getting things done...

Anyhow from the tone of your post I'd say it's both: yes you are probably ahead of some of your peers. At the same time however you have to accept that in life there will always be those less competent and motivated and you have to deal with it.
