Ask HN: Canada for Tech Jobs?

Is now a good time to move to Canada for tech-related jobs, data science/analytics in particular? What parts of Canada should one consider?

I've worked in tech in Vancouver for a decade. I wouldn't recommend it if the US is an option for you or if it's not remote work. The salaries are still quite far behind the US and the cost of living in any of the major cities will keep you from getting ahead. It's not bad though, it just could be better.
I'm in Vancouver as well and can confirm. Salaries have been inching up over the years but they are not nearly the same as say across the border in Washington. The real estate cost however, is very much on par with cities like Seattle or San Francisco.
Montreal has a lot of gaming companies as well as some startups if you are interested. Pay is lower than other provinces but cost is also lower. You don't really need French to feel comfortable here from my experience.
