This is exactly why I refuse to buy any ios apple that cost more than $1. They're inevitably going away.

This is also why the iPad is never going to replace a computer for me. Any productivity ecosystem I create for myself is just going to break after a couple of OS updates.

Generally, even if an app gets removed from the App Store, you can still redownload it anytime if you've previously purchased it. The only exception is egregious cases where the developer's account gets terminated. But even then, if you backed up the app's IPA in advance, you can reinstall it anytime. (This is distinct from sideloading, as an Apple-signed IPA is encrypted and tied to your Apple ID but has no expiry date.)
But what's the rationale behind this specific $1 limit? If something were to keep me entertained for several hours with no advertising, I'd certainly consider that worth $1. Going down the free route would likely end me drowning in a sea of advertisements.
