As a teenager, I thought a technocracy was the perfect system for a government. Then two issues presented to me:

- There are plenty of dictators and autocrats with top-flight degrees in the sciences, economics and civil engineering.

- The majority of the most able and intelligent people do more to avoid a political life than strive for one.

After reading the Fountainhead, it became quite clear why expertise should not imply rule.
