Over in Europe we've not got as much of a giant free market boner as in some other places. A free market isn't some fundamental right and I'd argue that an unregulated marked is just about the furthest away you can get from a free market anyway.
Cast your mind back to when every phone brand, and even some phone models, had their own unique proprietary charger. Was that a situation anyone prefers over the standardization on mini/micro-usb, and now usb-c? This isn't some unprecedented move.
