One thing that people tend to like about film is "highlight rolloff" - or the gradient describing how highlights become over-exposed. In digital cameras this can end up being a harsh clipping of data, but with film, it's usually a softer more pleasing transition. This is one reason why fancy digital cameras prefer to shoot in raw and log color spaces to help preserve the color data to grade that transition |
