to be precise, public funding is based on the results of the upcoming legislative (national assembly) elections. France has 577 districts, each elect on representative in two rounds. Parties receive about 40k€/year for every elected representative and another ~1.40€/vote/year for every vote in these elections provided (!) you make more than 1% in at least 50 districts.
