I should disclaim that I work on a 3D capture app called Polycam, but in that work I've grown used to the idea that 3D captures are inherently better at conveying some kinds of visual information than photographs are. Like a room with graffiti on the walls. The opposite is also true - 2D photos are way better at sunsets & portraits. So I guess what I'm saying is that I'd bet there are some undiscovered cases where 3D is going to be better for data representation / manipulation. |
