This comment seems to violate at least a few of the HN guidelines for comments with the "Hardly anything surprising and new here sherlock" quip.

Agreed. That sort of zinger ought to smell bad when you’re typing it out…

I would say "Hardly anything surprising and new here sherlock" violates both of those.

My point was that without that last line your comment would have been fine overall. Consider dropping the snark and dismissal in the future and just having genuine and human conversation. FWIW, I'm sure I've accidentally violated some of the guidelines in the past as well, but I try not to as much as possible.
