I’ve just gone through the ringer with Unis here in Australia. Similar situation, except tuition fees are deferred for any uni until I’m working. The best advice is to choose the most enthusiastic teachers. Can you check who will teach you? It may sound silly, but dull teachers have nearly sapped my will to live, let alone complete my engineering degree. I ask them questions, they say ‘look at the lecture slides’. I attend their lectures, they drag it out and obviously don’t want to be there. The assessments are gruelling, cheating is widespread due to poor teaching. It’s an all-round depressing experience. I attended a ‘lower-tier’ university for a year and the teachers there were great. They would be engaging for their whole lecture, enthusiastically answer questions and they imbued me with their passion for their subjects. Never underestimate how much a teacher can help you. (When I say teacher you can just substitute ‘professor’) |
