FWIW I was given new unanticipated financial aid during freshman orientation. IMO a large student debt is terrible if you come out of college with a major that doesn't immediately lead to a lucrative career, but in any sort of STEM major I wouldn't worry about it. You'll pay it off in no time. Just make sure a STEM career is what you actually want, and don't flunk!
